KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat will be voting on Budget 2021 tomorrow, said Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, quashing rumours that the voting process of next year’s supply bill might be delayed to next week.

The minister in the prime minister’s department (Parliament and law) denied any setbacks and told Chinese-language daily Sin Chew that the budget will be voted on tomorrow.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin currently commands a razor-thin majority in Parliament.

This is one of the reasons that sparked rumours of a delay in the voting process, the other being that many ministries and lawmakers have yet to participate in the budget debate due to shorter sitting hours in light of Covid-19.

However, today’s session was extended from 2pm to 3pm, and The Vibes understands that a prolonged sitting tomorrow will only be determined later.

Barring any defections, Muhyiddin is expected to garner the support of 111 MPs, if Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is unable to attend tomorrow’s sitting due his mandatory self-quarantine.

Backbencher Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah of Gua Musang has also remained non-committal over his vote tomorrow despite coming out strongly to challenge Muhyiddin’s leadership and asserting that he will not take part in the debates.

Budget 2021 was originally scheduled to see a vote on November 23, but was postponed to November 25, with the latest set for tomorrow. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
