ISKANDAR PUTERI – Johor’s government will raise the allocation for opposition elected representatives to RM150,000 from RM50,000 next year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the allowance for the leader of the state’s opposition was also increased to RM5,000 from RM3,000, while presenting the Johor Budget 2021 at the Third Session of the 14th Johor State Assembly, at Bangunan Sultan Ismail, here, today.

He also announced a special financial handout for Johor civil servants, including all Al-Quran and Fardu Ain class teachers, staff of Community Rehabilitation Centres and Johor Islamic Kindergarten teachers.

Hasni said that under this assistance state civil servants will receive either a half month's pay, or a minimum of RM1,000, with the payment to be disbursed before end of 2020.

The menteri besar said, through the Johor Governance Agenda, the Johor government remains committed to making the state’s civil service more efficient, while ensuring that governance is carried out with integrity and meets the aspirations of the Johorean public.

‘’The Johor Governance Transformation can be implemented by empowering government servants and modernisation initiatives,” Hasni said.

He said that the state government has set up the Johor Civil Service Academy to boost competence, and that collaborative efforts with professional bodies will also be carried out to so that Johor’s civil servants attain professional technical and non-technical qualifications.

Hasni added that the Johor government will also implement time-based promotions to provide a better career pathway for officers. – Bernama, November 26, 2020
