GEORGE TOWN – Pakatan Harapan (PH) needs to be more aggressive in compelling people to come out and vote in the 15th general election (GE15), Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said.
The usually mild-mannered and unassuming former Penang chief minister was upbeat at a ceramah last night after his recovery from Covid-19, raising his voice more than usual when urging Penangites to show up in full force at the ballot box on November 19.
“It is Barisan Nasional’s (BN) playbook to frustrate the people so that they do not believe in the country. But it is the people who must make the change as they control their destiny in ensuring we change for the better,” said Chow at DAP Penang’s mega ceramah at the Chinese Town Hall last night.
In the last election in 2018, the voter turnout was around 83%, Chow noted but believes the figure this year could be better.
He also urged Malaysians working overseas to find a way to return home and vote.
He said he met two people who decided to come back and vote despite living in Australia and Singapore.
Despite the negativity BN projects about PH, Chow said the current political climate and sentiments still favour PH, as people cannot stomach betrayal and deceit.
The ceramah last night had a dispiriting start, with over half the seats empty at 8pm when DAP’s Tanjong candidate Lim Hui Ying entered with her father, party veteran Lim Kit Siang.
The crowd grew when DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is defending his Bagan parliamentary seat, arrived two hours later. – The Vibes, November 6, 2022
