GEORGE TOWN – Worsening traffic conditions and floods are among the main concerns raised by voters in the Bayan Baru parliamentary constituency, said Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Saw Yee Fung.
Among the youngest candidates in Penang for the coming general election, Saw said these problems have worsened over the years and were yet to be properly addressed.
Saw was among the earliest to be picked to contest and had been on the ground since June when she was informed of her candidacy.
“I want to compete and win on merit, not because I am young or experienced, but simply because I know I can deliver and hope I am given the chance.”
She had earlier opened an operations centre in Persiaran Bukit Jambul before she began a systematic campaign in one of the largest parliamentary constituencies on the island.
What the 33-year-old experienced has given her encouragement.
Unlike previous MCA candidates, Saw said she was not scolded by elderly voters on why she wanted to represent BN, and MCA specifically.
She found that voters were willing to engage with her and she took time to explain what she intends to do if voted in.
She added that she joined MCA as she believes that BN is a coalition built on consensus and mutual respect.
This, she said, was unlike other coalitions, who are more inclined to impose their political agenda on others. – The Vibes, November 6, 2022
