GEORGE TOWN – The formation of a unity government in Perak composed of rivals Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) is testimony that such a concept can work in the country, said a Perak PH leader.
In a statement today, Perak PH chief Datuk Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the move clearly shows that political rhetoric involving extremism and slander can be rebutted.
Two days ago, it was reported that both PH and BN had reached a consensus on forming a unity government in the state after obtaining royal consent from the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
The decision saw BN’s Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad appointed as menteri besar to lead the newly formed coalition.
Last Saturday, Perikatan Nasional won 26 seats while PH and BN took 24 and nine seats respectively in the Perak assembly.
To further realise the unity government concept, Mujahid said that he would ensure the principles behind it would be governed based on shariah guidelines and humane principles.
“The narrow political mindset is reserved for leaders who are elitists and not those grounded on what the people aspire for,” Mujahid said.
The firming up of a state unity government, he said, meant that a new era of collaborative politics had begun “where… the welfare and prosperity of the people outweighs other expectations.
“PH and BN may have two different political narratives but such ideologies need to be subservient to the greater need for order, moderation, and social justice.”
Mujahid also said that a memorandum of understanding was signed between PH and BN to ensure that the administration of the state would be shared to ensure a sustainable and stable unity government. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
