JAKARTA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived for his first official overseas visit to Jakarta, Indonesia to strengthen Malaysia’s bilateral and economic ties with its neighbour.
He landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport with his wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail aboard a special flight, and was met by International Trade and Industries Minister Senator Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
The two-day visit will see Anwar witness the signings of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent by Malaysian companies and government-linked companies with their Indonesian counterparts.
Some of the major Malaysian companies signing MoUs are Exim Bank Malaysia and Airod Bhd. FGV Holdings Bhd will be signing a memorandum of cooperation.
Companies signing letters of intent include giants such as Berjaya Group, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Boustead Properties Bhd, and Carsome, among others.
The delegation will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Bogor tomorrow morning.
The prime minister will also be visiting the Malaysian diaspora in Indonesia tonight at the Malaysian embassy. – The Vibes, January 8, 2023
