KUANTAN – The Mara Education Foundation (YPM) yesterday handed over school aid to the two children of the late Lt Col Mohd Zahir Armaya.

Kuantan Mara officer Amalluramzan Ab Manan said the one-off school assistance of RM300 were given to Mohamad Ebel Zulkarnaian, 10, and Mohamad Remy Iskandar, 9, and is also expected to ease the burden for their mother.

"Apart from financial assistance, Mara Prihatin 2020 assistance in the form of household items and the YPM Adoption Scheme (SAA) are also provided.

"Regarding this SAA, we will try to make an application for the deceased's second child because he has not received any form of scholarship and, if approved, his educational needs will be taken care of until he completes Form 5," he said after visiting the family here yesterday.

Meanwhile, mother Jamilah Ismail, 38, expressed her gratitude and thanks to YPM for the contribution to her sons.

"I am very moved because there are still people who care about the children of my late husband and, God willing, I will use the assistance received as best as possible," she said.

Zahir, 36, a commando from the 11 Regiment Gerak Khas, died on September 4, last year after being shot during a demonstration in conjunction with the launch of the Fifth Division and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade at Lok Kawi Camp, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. – Bernama, December 5, 2020
