GEORGE TOWN – Residents in the red zones of Mukim 12 and 13 in Penang island have been urged to give their full cooperation after the conditional movement control order (CMCO) was extended there until December 20.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said residents need to cooperate with frontliners to continue the fight against Covid-19.

Earlier today, Senior Security Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the CMCO in Penang will end tomorrow except for Mukim 12 (Southwest district) and Mukim 13 (Northeast district).

Mukim 13’s Paya Terubong Flats in Relau and Desa Bistari Flats (Block A and B) in Batu Uban will be under enhanced MCO (EMCO) until December 20.

Around 12,300 people will be affected in both subdistricts.

“Penang is grateful that the National Security Council (NSC) has considered its recommendation that the CMCO only be extended in high-risk areas only and not the entire state,” said Chow in a statement today.

He expects the standard operating procedures for both areas to be announced soon by the NSC.

Chow also urged all residents in Penang to continue their vigilance against the pandemic.

As of today, Penang has 44 new cases, bringing its total to 2,282. It also has a total of 14 clusters. – The Vibes, December 5, 2020
