IPOH – Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah has accepted the resignation of former menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

In a statement today, Istana Iskandariah comptroller Colonel Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Nor said the resignation is based on the state constitution.

“He had presented his intention to resign as menteri besar together with the state executive committee. The request to resign together with the state executive committee through a letter dated 19 Rabiulakhir, 1442 (December 5, 2020) has received His Royal Highness’ approval,” said Rahim.

Faizal tendered his resignation at the palace at 3pm yesterday.

He lost his office in a vote of confidence on Friday when 48 state lawmakers voted against him and only 10 assemblymen backing him, with one vote deemed spoilt or abstained.

Faizal made announced his resignation yesterday evening in a 30-minute speech where he detailed the state’s achievements under his administration. – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
