KUALA LUMPUR – A Putrajaya MRT commuter has filed a complaint with rail operator RapidKL over his dissatisfaction with the public service announcement “mumblings”.

Contract worker Ong Seng Koon, 70, told The Vibes that he was unhappy with the poor announcements broadcasted at a Putrajaya MRT station as well as in the train.

“The public announcement system in the train and at the station was poor. It was just mumbling and you couldn’t make out what was being said.”

His grievances didn’t stop there, as Ong noticed water leakage at one of the stations, and guard doors did not open when the train arrived.

“Only two guard doors were able to open at one of the stations. Passengers had to rush to the working doors to enter and exit the train.”

Another observation he made was that the Putrajaya and Kentonmen MRT stations appeared poorly designed for disabled and senior commuters.

He added that the Kentonmen station lacked signage to direct commuters to the exits while the Putrajaya station did not have signage warning passengers of some steps.

“They need to put a yellow marker and signage to warn commuters (about the steps) as I nearly tripped and fell.”

In a brief reply to Ong’s written complaints, RapidKL said his feedback “has been forwarded to the management for their attention”.

Other commuters also shared Koon’s grouses, with passengers tweeting that RapidKL’s public announcement system was not working properly.

Twitter user @Maslina_LJS urged RapidKL to transmit its announcements properly, questioning if the speakers were broken.

“Can you give proper announcements? I can’t hear anything, don’t tell me the audio system is broken,” @Masline_LJS said.

Twitter user @edayisonfire also complained about the announcements, saying, “the voice from the announcement is not clear at all, it is like the radio is spoiled.”

Meanwhile, user @chapree pointed out that gates were closed at Ampang Park MRT station during peak hours even though it was unclear which gates he was referring to.

“If you plan to go on Ampang Park MRT, this is what I am facing. They closed the gate, you can’t go in, so find an alternative plan.

“But seriously @MOTMalaysia, how come a new line is like this? Malfunctions during peak hour.”

Yesterday, commuters were unhappy with the slower trains along the three-week-old Putrajaya MRT Line.

The trains were also being manually driven between the Kg Batu and Kentonmen stations with RapidKL saying the slower service is due to the problems with the track switch. – The Vibes, March 24, 2023
