KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia hopes that Brunei will consider the proposal to establish a reciprocal green lane in an effort to revive economic activities of the two countries, which have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin conveyed the message to Brunei Darussalam's ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Paduka Alaihuddin Mohd Taha when the latter paid him a courtesy call at his office at the Parliament building yesterday.

Muhyiddin in a post on Facebook said Alaihuddin came to bid farewell as his tenure in Malaysia will end later this month.

He said in the meeting, they also discussed efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, including in facing challenges and implementing measures to overcome the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.

"As neighbouring countries, we are in agreement that the pandemic should not be an obstacle to enhancing Malaysia and Brunei's existing cooperation," the prime minister said in the post.

Muhyiddin also expressed his gratitude that the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had granted his request to pay an official visit to the country.

“I conveyed my intention to make the visit in the first quarter of next year, to coincide with the  23rd Annual Leaders’ Consultation," he said.

At the meeting, Muhyiddin also thanked Alaihuddin for his services, contributions and friendship during his six-year tenure in Malaysia. – Bernama, December 8, 2020
