KUALA LUMPUR – Wong Ling Biu (PH-Sarikei) today shared his battle with Covid-19 in the Dewan Rakyat today, saying he was refused testing many times before slipping into a coma.
During the Health Ministry budget debate, Wong said the first doctor he saw said he merely had a fever.
“I went to a specialist in a private hospital in Sibu. He also said I just have a fever.
“The symptoms went on for a week, causing me to be suspicious.”
Wong then went to a hospital in his constituency of Sarikei for a screening, but found that it did not possess the equipment needed for Covid-19 testing.
“I insisted on getting tested because I had the symptoms (of Covid-19). I then went to another hospital in Sibu, and they refused to test me because I never had close contact with a Covid-positive patient.”
After he was admitted to the hospital in Sibu, Wong fell into a coma.
“If I didn’t get tested finally, I would have been dead at home.”
But the bad experiences did not end with Wong, as he said his family went through a similar ordeal.
He said test samples of his wife were sent to Kuching, Sarawak, but the hospital refused to test them because she did not have Covid-19 symptoms.
“When she went to the Sibu hospital for screening, she was found positive for Covid-19.”
Similarly, his son and national athlete Jackie Wong initially tested positive for Covid-19 and also got negative results.
Wong said his son’s results were “unstable because the virus died in his body”.
He added that Jackie’s quarantine period was mishandled, causing it to be prolonged for 73 days.
“I feel my family and I were like lab rats. The vaccine should be tested by political leaders before it is given to the rakyat. Are we ready?” – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
