IPOH – Kota Tampan assemblyman Datuk Saarani Mohamad will be sworn in as Perak menteri besar at 11am tomorrow.

The ceremony will take place at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Dewan Negara Perak member Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini said this in a statement read outside Istana Kinta here today, after Saarani’s audience with the sultan at 5pm.

“His Royal Highness Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, based on Article XVI, Clause 2(a), Perak constitution, has considered that His Honourable Datuk Saarani Mohamad, the Kota Tampan assemblyman, has obtained the majority support of state assembly members to be appointed Perak menteri besar.”

The state has been without a government for almost a week after Chenderiang assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu was ousted as menteri besar following his loss in a confidence vote on Friday.

Bersatu and PAS – upset with Umno’s role in the ouster – had delayed requesting an audience with Sultan Nazrin, leading to a stalemate for the past few days.

However, all three Perikatan Nasional components today reached an agreement to back Umno’s candidate, Saarani, for the job. – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
