KUALA LUMPUR – Coldplay fans who were defrauded when purchasing concert tickets from resellers can lodge an official complaint with the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said the consumers would also need to submit relevant evidence when lodging the report to allow the ministry to investigate the case under the relevant laws enforced by it or other ministries.

“We advise consumers to be wise and purchase tickets from official channels. As consumers, you have the right to choose tickets with prices that are within your financial ability,” the ministry said.

Pre-sale tickets for the British rock band were quickly sold out within a few hours on Wednesday, with over 400,000 queuing virtually to purchase them.

Shortly after on the same day, scalpers began openly offering their tickets on social media and reselling platforms.

For example, reselling platform Viagogo at 3.47 pm on Wednesday showed 110 tickets available for purchase, with ticket prices for the CAT6 category elevated from RM398 to a whopping RM1,750.

The Vibes also reported that a victim purchased a ticket from a Twitter user but was immediately blocked after he transferred the money.

However, those who were successful in purchasing tickets were required to include their IC number, and it would be displayed on the ticket as well.

The ministry urged sellers to be more ethical when conducting business, and not to break any law. – The Vibes, May 20, 2023
