KLIA assault case: Two policemen seek civil damages from AKPS chief
Two officers filed a suit against Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain on four grounds - November 5, 2026

TWO police officers involved in the alleged assault incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) have initiated separate civil proceedings against Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, seeking justice over the Sept 28 incident.

The suit, filed at the Sepang Sessions Court on Nov 4, names Mohd Shuhaily as the sole defendant.

Lawyer Kamal Hisham Ja'afar, who represents the two officers alongside Muhammad Nor Tamrin, said the claim was based on four causes of action: wrongful detention, assault, battery and defamation.

He said the civil action followed Mohd Shuhaily's charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code on Oct 21 for allegedly causing hurt to the officers.

The lawyers said the claim was premised on the allegation that Mohd Shuhaily had acted in his personal capacity during the incident, rather than on behalf of the Malaysian government.

The plaintiffs also welcomed the government's position that all parties were subject to the law and said they regarded civil proceedings as the appropriate channel to seek justice.

Mohd Shuhaily had pleaded not guilty to allegedly causing hurt to the two officers at a counter in KLIA Terminal 1 between 1.17pm and 1.30pm on Sept 28.

If convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code, he faces a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of RM2,000, or both. - November 5, 2026
