A GROUP backing Negeri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has described Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim’s move to seek the ruler’s consent for the coming state assembly sitting as recognition of his legitimacy.
Secretariat Taat Setia Sokongan DYMM Tuanku Muhriz chairman Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Datuk Zaharudin said Ismail’s reported intention to seek Tuanku Muhriz’s consent for the Nov 26 sitting and the tabling of the state budget a day later was significant, particularly after earlier statements by the Menteri Besar that did not explicitly name the ruler.
In a statement, Megat Shahriman said the move amounted to an acknowledgement that Tuanku Muhriz remained the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar under the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.
“There is therefore no longer any question of dual leadership or uncertainty over who the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan is,” he said.
He nevertheless urged Ismail to state his position publicly and unequivocally, arguing that references to the ruler without naming Tuanku Muhriz could prolong confusion.
Megat Shahriman said the people of Negeri Sembilan needed clarity from the state leadership, adding that an explicit statement would help ease public anxiety and bring the constitutional dispute to an end.
“The secretariat also called on all parties to abide by decisions of the Dewan Kerapatan Undang (DKU) and the state government, including the gazetted removal of the Undangs involved in the dispute,” he added.
It maintained that the decisions were final and should be respected.
The group further urged the police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Attorney-General’s Chambers to act against individuals it accused of insulting Tuanku Muhriz or impersonating the ruler and Undangs who had been removed from office.
Separately, an activist, Zool Amali Hussin, has lodged a police report over a joint media statement dated Oct 20 which purportedly declared Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
In his report, Zool said he came across the statement through a Facebook post by an individual identified as Nordanial Hamzah.
The document, which purported to carry the endorsement of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, the four Undangs and the Tunku Besar of Tampin, claimed that Tuanku Muhriz had been removed from the throne through a proclamation under Article 10(2) of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution on Sept 15.
It further claimed that Tuanku Muhriz could no longer exercise the powers and functions of the ruler, and that the appointment of 10 state executive councillors had been revoked.
Zool disputed the claims, saying Tuanku Muhriz remained the state’s legitimate ruler and that Tuanku Nadzaruddin had not been lawfully appointed to the position.
He alleged that the statement amounted to an attempt to undermine the reigning ruler, impersonate the royal institution and mislead the public and state administration.
In his report, he called on police to investigate those responsible for preparing, signing and circulating the document, as well as identify those allegedly behind the claims.
He also urged the authorities to examine possible offences under the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – November 3, 2026
