GEORGE TOWN – Penang Perikatan Nasional (PN) has launched its state election machinery with a public denunciation of the DAP-led state government for allegedly trying to “scam” the people of the state with false promises.

Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff, state chief of PN-component PAS, claimed that Penang is led by scammers out to deceive the state’s voters.

Speaking at the coalition’s state-level convention here today, he cited an example in the Penang Transport Master Plan, now better known as the Penang Development Master Plan.

He claimed that the main idea behind the plan is for real estate development while the infrastructure projects remain mostly on paper only.

“The projects are too lavish and will take the longest of time to implement while, at the same time, they clear land to build properties,” he said.

With the slogan Penang Kalih (kalih means to change position or status in Bahasa Malaysia) bandied about, Fauzi added that to complicate matters another deceit going on in Penang is in affordable housing.

He said buyers here can only look on at the mushrooming of houses because they remain expensive. The majority of homes constructed remain unaffordable to the average person, he stressed.

Also present at the convention were coalition chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who also leads PN-component Bersatu, and Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau.

Muhyiddin officiated the launch of the event held at Wisma Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, the Gerakan headquarters in George Town.

Meanwhile, Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong aimed a dig at the state government, claiming that it has not done anything substantial for Penang.

He also referred to the rising living costs as a bane to the country. – The Vibes, June 17, 2023
