KUALA LUMPUR – Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau lodged a police report late last night claiming his Twitter account was hacked to post an insensitive tweet about contesting the Pulai seat following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub

He filed the report at the Sri Hartamas police station last night, saying his account was hacked by an unknown individual.

“I want to inform that I never posted the statement, that is going viral, on my Twitter (acccount),” he said in a tweet along with photos of his trip to the police station.

Lau, whose party is in Perikatan Nasional (PN) where he hopes to revive Gerakan’s political relevance, got the heat from social media users yesterday.

Screenshots captured and circulated by netizens show Lau’s Twitter handle posting at 12.37pm yesterday asking: “Is it OK if I contest for the Pulai by-election?”

That was around the time of when prayers for Salahuddin’s burial in his hometown of Pontian, Johor.

The tweet has since been deleted.

Salahuddin, who had served as domestic trade and costs of living minister and Amanah deputy president died Sunday night at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah, after emergency surgery on Friday for a brain haemorrhage.
