PUTRAJAYA – Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil is ready to cooperate should he be called by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) over an allegation that he had given a political talk at a mosque in Rawang last Sunday.
"Insya-Allah, if I’m called up, I am ready to come forward,” he said at a press conference after giving the keynote address at the Malaysia Public Sector Day programme, here, today.
Fahmi, who was at Masjid Nurul Yaqin in Kg Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang on Sunday, was accused of speaking about politics at the mosque’s main prayer area.
It was reported yesterday that Jais had received a complaint on the matter and had called the mosque’s caretaker to get his statement.
Fahmi said he had already explained the allegation on Facebook and Twitter, in which he said he was invited by the mosque’s committee to explain the issue surrounding the controversial British band The 1975 and the cancellation of the Good Vibes Festival.
“I did not talk about any political issues or the state election,” he said, expressing regret over the attempt by certain quarters to politicise the matter.
The 1975 had engaged in disruptive behaviour while they were performing on the Good Vibes Festival’s stage on July 22, which then led to the organisers cutting their performance short and the mnistry subsequently ordering for the 3-day event to be cancelled. – The Vibes, August 1, 2023
