KOTA BARU – It was a “fast” that lasted less than two weeks.

On July 31, former Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said he would be “fasting and taking a break” from politics.

It turns out that political fasting was not the easiest feat for Nik Abduh, the fifth child of the late Kelantan menteri besar Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

“I am breaking my political fast. Turns out political fasting is tough. It’s frustrating,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He had previously announced that he was going on hiatus from politics, amid the controversy surrounding his name not being nominated to contest for the Chempaka seat in Kelantan for the state election.

“This is a difficult time for my mother and I,” he had posted on Facebook, expressing hope that PAS would grow stronger with the best leadership to drive the country forward.

The controversy began when his uncle Nik Din Nik Mat had claimed that PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah blackballed his nephew from being named as Chempaka candidate for the polls scheduled on August 12.

Nik Din, in a video, alleged that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had written a letter asking Kelantan PAS to include Nik Abduh in the list of election candidates.

However, he alleged his nephew’s name was rejected by Amar.

Amar subsequently rubbished the claim, saying that Nik Abduh’s name was not in the list of candidates from the start. – The Vibes, August 8, 2023
