PETALING JAYA – With 131 investigation papers opened in six states during the election campaign period, none of the reports received by police were on matters related to religion, race and royalty (3R).
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said 28 of the investigation papers involved Selangor.
He was met today at SK Klang Gate, one of the voting centres for the Hulu Kelang state constituency.
Ayob Khan said that some 35,000 police officers and policemen were on duty for the state polls in Penang, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu, including 5,526 in Selangor.
As voting is well underway and with several more hours to go, Ayob Khan warned against any provocations.
“We hope there are no incidents that can affect the smoothness of today’s voting process.
“We have gone through many elections, the public is advised against any provocations, leave it to the police for any further action because it is our duty to keep the peace and ensure everyone’s safety,” he said.
Ayob Khan also asked party members in all six states to be rational and not do anything to break the law as action will be taken regardless of which party they belong to.
Meanwhile, commenting on a viral video of a man allegedly being manhandled by cops, Ayob Khan did not discount the possibility of provocation.
“I can confirm the incident took place at a district police headquarters in the east coast and we are still investigating.
“Maybe there was a provocation before the incident was recorded,” he said.
The video showed a man riding a motorcycle that had a PAS flag on it seemingly being manhandled by policemen.
