PETALING JAYA – 16 police reports were lodged in Selangor with regard to identity theft in casting votes during the process of today’s state elections.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the 16 were part of 42 reports lodged over the same matter in all the states involved in the elections.
“Apart from Selangor, nine similar cases were reported in Kedah, eight in Penang, five in Terengganu, three in Negri Sembilan and one in Kelantan,” he said.
Investigations are being carried out under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act 1954, he informed a press conference at Bukit Aman.
He is not discounting the possibility of more reports being lodged by voters who detected that their identity cards had been used in the voting process today.
Police also received a report involving an offence under Section 3(1)(m) of the same act pertaining to the publication of materials that look similar to ballot papers to be used, or possibly used in an election.
A report was also received on vandalism of party flags which is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
There were also two reports lodged over dissatisfaction with their right-hand finger being dipped in indelible ink during the voting process.
Razarudin said no reports were received on rioting that resulted in injuries today. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
