ON The Good, The Bad and the Ugly this week, panellists Datuk Zainul Ariffin Mohamed Isa, Datuk “Rocky” Ahirudin Attan and Terence Fernandez discuss the ongoing graft probe into a judge that has sparked a massive wave of indignation among legal and judicial circles.
Is this an attack on the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law, or should nothing be out of bounds for discussion, examination and review?
Meanwhile, the debate that was 14 years in the making finally happened on Thursday night where opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim went up against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over financially distressed oil and gas firm Sapura Energy Bhd.
Although Sapura Energy took centre stage in the first segment of the debate, much of the discourse focused on the country’s post-Covid-19 recovery, good governance and nation building.
Who, in our panellists’ eyes, “won” the debate? Najib – for the simple fact that he suggested solutions? Or Anwar – for highlighting the root causes, the need for transparency and more accountability?
