THIS week, Datuk Kamil and Manvir host local filmmaker Edmund Yeo, who besides being the youngest ever Malaysian to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2009, has just returned from winning critical acclaim at Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland with his latest production, Stone Turtle.

What is really surprising is that his last few films, Aqerat, Moonlight Shadow and Malu have received plaudits and rave reviews globally, but have yet to be screened locally.

Whilst we try to find out reasons for this exclusion, we also learn how his movies are funded, produced and distributed.

It's extremely frustrating to note that local talents have gone unnoticed, despite making Malaysian movies for a global audience and being very successful at it.

If you care to suggest how we can develop and nurture our talent and hopefully grow the next Martin Scorcese or Christopher Nolan, do tweet @manvirvictor with your suggestions. – The Vibes, September 22, 2022
