CLOSE cooperation between Sarawak and the federal government is crucial in ensuring the success of Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said.

She called for more engagement sessions to be held between both sides to ensure the sporting event runs smoothly.

“Sarawak and the federal government must hold more meetings to ensure next year’s Sukma is the best for our athletes,” she said in her speech at the opening ceremony of the Sukan Perpaduan event in Kuching today.

Sarawak will host the 21st Sukma from August 17 to 24 next year, having hosted the event in 2016 and 1990 previously.

Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Sukma 2024 preparations were progressing smoothly.

“Sarawak has allocated RM124 million to refurbish sports facilities in the state, and RM80 million has been provided by the state government for Sarawak athletes’ preparations,” he said. – Bernama, November 18, 2023
