THE Kelantan government would hold talks with the Youth and Sports Ministry and National Sports Council on guidelines for shariah-compliant sports attire for the 2028 Malaysia Games (Sukma), state Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad said.
He said the talks were crucial since Kelantan would host Sukma 2028.
“There are some attire-sensitive events that need to be discussed, like aquatics and rhythmic gymnastics, so the state government will hold talks with the ministry,” he said in response to a supplementary question from Mohd Rodzi Ja’afar (Gaal-PAS) during the Kelantan assembly sitting at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim today.
He said the state government enlisted Kota Lama assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim’s help for the talks as the matter pertains to female athletes.
On October 14, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the federal government hopes its RM276 million allocation would benefit Kelantan in hosting Sukma 2028.
Zamakhshari said the Kelantan government would fully utilise the allocation to build six sports facilities at Bukit Merbau Sports Complex in Pasir Puteh and an aquatic centre at Madinah Al-Salam Tunjong with an allocation of RM164.35 million for land acquisition, preliminary land works and infrastructure provision. – Bernama, November 27, 2023.
