MALAYSIA's women’s badminton pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah breezed through to the Olympic semi-finals in Paris today by beating world No. 10 Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong in straight sets.
The South Korean pair had clinched the bronze medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Tan and Thinaah won with a score of 21-12, 21-13.
They will now face China’s world No. 1 Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, making them the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to reach the Olympic semi-finals.
Nine out of Malaysia’s 13 Olympic medals have come from badminton, with two more each in diving and cycling.
The first Malaysians to win Olympic medals were Razif Sidek and Jalani Sidek in the 1992 Summer Olympics, while Lee Chong Wei won three silver medals. – August 1, 2024.
