MALAYSIAN Cricket Association (MCA) president Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali today reiterated that the Office of the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia has formally recognised him as the lawful president of the association.
He said the same applied to Dr Arun Kumar Beshamber Nath as the deputy president and Amarjeet Singh Wazir Singh as honorary treasurer.
“With this, Mahnorizal Mahat, and Ahmad Salman Othman who both have also withdrawn their resignations respectively and continue in their capacities as executive committee members,” he said.
He said this in a letter to the MCA patron, Exco members, all affiliate, associate members and stakeholders.
It was learnt that the MCA was seeking a declaration that five of its members are no longer executive committee members and cannot act as such.
Datuk Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin, who claimed to be the acting president said it was a regrettable but necessary decision.
He also accused Iqbal and other former committee members of meddling in the association’s affairs despite their public resignations.
Ahmad Feisal claimed that the meddling included Iqbal saying the association’s annual general meeting (AGM) set for tomorrow has been adjourned.
In addition to Iqbal, he named Dr Arun Kumar, Amarjeet Singh, Mahnorizal Mahat and Ahmad Salman as the former committee members.
Iqbal said there exists no constitutional, or statutory basis for anyone to assume, claim, or exercise the role of acting president.
“Such actions constitute a grave and wilful defiance of both the MCA Constitution and the Sports Development Act 1997,”.
Iqbal said the so-called Annual General Meeting (BGM 2025) scheduled for April 27, 2025, is wholly unconstitutional, and any decisions that may be made would be unconstitutional.
“It is a gathering without legitimate authority.
“I strongly urge all state affiliate and associate members, and all stakeholders of Malaysian cricket, to heed this correction and to act responsibly and diligently in protecting the integrity, sanctity, spirit of the game and its institutions,” he said.
He further cautioned that any participation in unconstitutional acts may expose individuals and entities to consequences under both the internal disciplinary provisions of the MCA constitution and the applicable national laws, including the Sports Development Act 1997.
“Cricket in Malaysia deserves governance rooted in law, honour, and good faith—not personal ambition, disruption, and deceit.
“Let us not be complicit in acts that betray the very values we are sworn to uphold.
“We must act responsibly, lawfully, and preserve the future of Malaysian cricket.
“I look forward to welcoming all of your participation at the AGM 2025 and the elections on May 25,” he added. – April 26, 2025
