YOUTH and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh today urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to immediately complete the appeal process regarding the FIFA decision which has sparked controversy among Malaysian football fans.
In an official statement, Hannah stated that she had reviewed FIFA's Reasons for Judgment and stressed the need for FAM to publicly state its intention to appeal and file the appeal through the designated channels.
"FAM cannot remain silent and must respond clearly to all revelations made by FIFA," Hannah stressed.
She also admitted that Harimau Malaya supporters were feeling “hurt, angry and disappointed” following the latest developments, which touched on the documentation and eligibility issues of naturalised players.
However, Hannah reminded the public not to forget their support for the national team which will face Laos this week in an international competition.
“To Malaysian players, we are always with you,” she said, assuring them that the ministry’s support for the country’s athletes remains intact.
Hannah's statement comes amid public pressure on FAM to provide an explanation regarding FIFA's decision to reject the eligibility of certain players, believed to be related to issues of heritage and citizenship documentation.
So far, FAM has not issued an official statement on follow-up measures but is expected to do so soon. - October 7, 2025
