SWITZERLAND advanced to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup after defeating Algeria 2-0 at BC Place Stadium on Thursday, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament.

Breel Embolo handed Switzerland an early advantage in the 10th minute before Dan Ndoye doubled the lead just a minute into the second half, putting the result beyond Algeria's reach.

The victory ensured Switzerland finished the group stage unbeaten, having recorded two wins and one draw to top Group B.

Switzerland will now face either Colombia or Ghana in the Round of 16 at the same venue on Tuesday, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The Swiss are seeking to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the fourth time in their history, while Algeria's campaign came to an end following the defeat. - July 3, 2026
