SELANGOR swept past their target of 80 gold medals at the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) after their women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team delivered the landmark victory, putting the hosts firmly on course for overall honours with one day of competition remaining.
The hosts’ 80th gold came when the Selangor women defeated Penang 3-1 in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang final, before the Red Giants continued to pull clear on the penultimate day of competition.
By the end of the day, Selangor had amassed 97 gold, 71 silver and 69 bronze medals, giving the hosts a commanding advantage over the Federal Territories, who stood second with 50 gold, 49 silver and 52 bronze medals.
Terengganu were third with 41 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze medals.
Swimming proved one of Selangor’s strongest disciplines, with the hosts crowned overall champions in the sport after collecting 20 gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals.
The final day of swimming competition brought three more Selangor gold medals, including another standout performance by home swimmer Eliza Ai Shen Tan, who completed her Sukma debut with a remarkable haul of seven gold medals.
Eliza won the women’s 50-metre freestyle in 26.44 seconds, breaking the Games record of 26.50 seconds set by Leung Chii Lin in 2008.
The young swimmer had earlier claimed gold in the 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle, 4x200m freestyle, 4x100m mixed medley and 4x100m women’s medley.
She also set a new national record in the 100m freestyle with a time of 56.78 seconds.
Selangor’s dominance in the pool was complemented by success elsewhere, as 14-year-old Ayu Syuhaida Khairul caused an upset to win the women’s individual 3m springboard diving title with 237.20 points.
Meanwhile, Pahang redeemed their disappointment from the 2024 Sukma in Sarawak by defeating Penang 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to claim the men’s hockey title at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium.
In track cycling, Johor’s Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid secured the women’s sprint title after beating Selangor rider Yong Ann Tung 2-0.
With 12 gold medals still to be decided on the final day of competition, Selangor have further opportunities to increase their medal haul before Sukma 2026 concludes, as the hosts move ever closer to securing overall supremacy on home soil. - August 24, 2026
