IN my previous article, I established how TikTok dance challenges can make a great addition to your workout or become an alternative means of spicing up your existing fitness regime.

However, dance performances are not the only physically-challenging content available on the platform.

Amidst the vast array of TikTok-based activities, workout and fitness displays are also present on this popular social streaming site, but can these short-form videos be an adequate substitute for your workout routine; one that is equal in intensity as those dance challenges given the brief time allocation for each video?

According to US news portal Studio 5’s health and fitness contributor, Melanie Douglass, the content on TikTok may not be the appropriate solution for your fitness requirements, but it gives you that short burst of energy to get you going.

Similar to TikTok dance challenges, these fitness videos are fun and energetic as they are usually paired with upbeat music; the plus side is that practitioners don’t have to appear polished throughout the entire routine or well put-together at the end of it.

However, the fitness-related content is not as strenuous as its dance counterparts ─ it usually takes a little over 60 seconds to execute it flawlessly ─ and hence, does not really make for a great workout substitute.

These TikTok challenges may be a great benchmark to test your fitness levels or physical goal to strive for, but it is not a full exercise routine on its own.

For those new to fitness and have no idea where to start, TikTok is a fantastic platform to look into.

As content creators are using the platform to provide advice, tutorials, and recommendations on fitness routines, dance challenges are not the only workout content available on TikTok.

Regardless of which content you prefer to add to your exercise regime, the goal is always to be a better version of yourself.

Having said that, why don’t you use TikTok to get up, get moving, and perhaps, even challenge a friend or two?

Above all, don’t forget to have some fun. ─ The Vibes, 9 March, 2021
