KUALA LUMPUR – The National men’s hockey team manager, Datuk Mirnawan Nawawi welcomes the appointment of Paul Revington as the Technical Development Director today.
Revington, who quit his job as Britain’s Elite Development Programme Head coach (women) in July signed a 3-year contract with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) to manage both the men and women’s team for project 2026, initiated by the national body with the aim of winning gold medals at the Asian Games in Japan.
“Revington’s return to MHC is good news to Malaysian hockey. He has vast experience compared to many and he knows the Malaysian style after spending two years from 2012-2014 as the national team coach.
“I have a very good working relationship with Revington and although he is here to manage the development of the junior team and the women’s team, I hope he can help us with the senior men’s team,” Mirnawan who is know as 'The Boss' in the hockey fraternity told The Vibes.
At the same time, national hockey head coach Arul Selvaraj said that he was very happy for Revington and Malaysian hockey.
“I would like to thank the president of MHC for bringing Revington back to start his second project in Malaysia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Revington said that his decision to comeback to Malaysia was straightforward as he saw an opportunity for him here, adding that he is excited to be working with the grassroots.
He also echoed Arul’s goal to change the mentality of the national players.
“It was a very good point coming from the head coach. That is why I am here now and my job is strengthen and prepare the young players mentally in the grassroots level before they go up the ranks.
“It is not the job of the head coach but at the moment, I understand that Arul and Mirnawan will have to help out,” Revington said during the announcement of his appointment at the MHC office at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
MHC president Datuk Subahan Kamal said that it was the right decision to bring Revington back as he is already familiar with the men’s and women’s team setup better than anyone.
“It was an easy decision for us as it was made based on Revington’s experience and that was someone easy to work with,” said Subahan. The Vibes, 5 October, 2020.
