KUALA LUMPUR – Following the rise in the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Indoor Hockey League Championship (MIHL) that was supposed to begin on the 24th of October has now been postponed to a date yet to be confirmed.

Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) received a declaration from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) stating that any large-scaled competitions have to be postponed. Following that letter as well as the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC) of Malaysia hosts UPSI, decided to postpone the championships.

The indoor hockey committee and the Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, chaired by Mr Shurizan Mansor, have reached an agreement to postpone the event during their sixth committee meeting that happened online on Saturday.

“UPSI was chosen as the venue for the championship and is bound by the rules set by the MoHE for the Institute of higher education (IPT). We also respect the rules to halt all face-to-face activities.
“We also received applications from teams from Sabah, and since Sabah has the highest number of Covid-19 cases, it is impossible for Sabah to make their way to Peninsular to join the championship.

“After a thorough evaluation of the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Malaysia and after receiving approval from the board of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, I, as the chairman of the indoor hockey committee and the Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, along with the committee, have agreed to postpone the 2020 Indoor Hockey League Championship,” explains Mr Shurizan Mansor.

To ensure the health and safety of all involving parties in the arena, MHC will also continue to adhere to the guidelines set by the MOH and the NSC; all in efforts to prevent the spread of the worrisome Covid-19. —The Vibes, October 12, 2020
