DETERMINED to make the country proud, national track cyclist Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom is ready to participate in tomorrow's men's keirin quarter-final round at the Izu Velodrome.
Shah Firdaus was taken to Juntendo University Shizuoka Hospital for further examination after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics organising committee medical team found that his oxygen level was low.
The 25-year-old collided with Great Britain's Jack Carlin in Heat 2 of the first round earlier today.
It was understood that Shah Firdaus had complained of pain on his left ribs before his race in the repechages. But he insisted on continuing and finished second to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Speaking to The Vibes from Tokyo, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said that he is okay now and ready for tomorrow.
"He has no broken ribs but he is a world class athlete. Pure determination to race and qualify for the next round despite pain," he said.
Meanwhile, Shah Firdaus posted on social media that he is doing well after his X-ray and CT scans.
"My X-ray and CT scan showed that nothing is wrong with me. I will race tomorrow.
"To all my supporters, please do not make any judgement on any of the riders. Crashes do happen in track racing, especially in keirin but nobody wants to cause a crash intentionally.
" It is part of the race as everyone comes here to win. Please pray for my recovery and I will try my best tomorrow," he said on his Instagram.
