KUALA LUMPUR – National striker Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad’s immediate priority is to regain his playing momentum and self-confidence when he returns to his former team Kedah Darul Aman FC for the Malaysia League (M-League) next season.

Muhammad Syafiq, who will be on loan to Kedah from Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), declined to set any scoring target or promise the moon and the stars for the Red Eagles squad.

“Of course, I’m glad to go back to Kedah. In fact, the determination shown by the management is the main factor for my return and I’m happy that there are still people interested in my services.

“I want to regain my self-confidence and rhythm. That is my priority when playing for Kedah,” he said in a statement issued by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) today.

The 26-year-old hoped his rejoining last season’s Super League runners-up could help them challenge for all honours in M-League, apart from going further in the AFC Cup.

He believed Kedah’s quality had not been diminished by the departure of two experienced players, Baddrol Bakhtiar and Rizal Ghazali, to Sabah FC.

Muhammad Syafiq expressed his appreciation to Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for allowing him to move to Kedah and for the full support from the JDT owner.

“Kedah supporters have also given many positive words about my return to Kedah and this has further motivated me,” he said.

He began his career by playing for Kedah at the junior level beginning 2012 and was promoted to the senior squad from 2015 to 2017, before migrating to JDT. – Bernama, December 27, 2021
