KUALA LUMPUR – “Sampai Mati Kuala Lumpur” − the fan-chant that echoes through the Kuala Lumpur Stadium, home of KL City Football Club (KL City FC) − will now hit the small screens as Astro’s highly-awaited sports docuseries will make its premiere on February 1.
The eight-part docuseries follows the club’s roller-coaster 2021 season, which culminated with their against-all-odds Malaysia Cup win.
At the premiere screening of its first episode in Pavilion KL today, KL City FC CEO and former player Stanley Bernard said: “We’re delighted that our team’s journey as one of the greatest underdog stories in Malaysian sports was documented through this series.
“Our passion is seen in a different light and we hope that it inspires all who watch it.
“We believe that the series resonates with every sports fan – not just fans of our team.
“It also is a meaningful step in increasing the commercial and brand value of KL City FC, Malaysian football and local sports.”
When asked on his thoughts and feelings before the screening of the first episode, Stanley said: “I don’t know the right word that can actually bring the whole thing together.
“We don’t know where this could have gone − we could have done terribly − but we went on to win and I am so proud of everyone that made this happen.”
Also speaking to The Vibes, KL City FC manager Bojan Hodak explained the challenges of having a film crew follow the team on and off the pitch for eight months.
“At first, I was not really keen but then the guys who followed us were very professional.
“They would prepare cameras in the dressing room before we enter so they did not disturb us at all.
“We got used to it (and) after some time, we didn’t really see that they were with us, and some of the things are really interesting to see because we did not know how this would turn out,” said the Croatian manager.
The man behind the production of this docuseries, Astro Sports head Nicholas John said: “We’re thrilled to be part of the journey with KL City FC − capturing crucial moments throughout the season − until the Malaysia Cup final.
“The docuseries will share the team’s stories and emotions from a unique perspective that Malaysian football fans have never seen or experienced before.”
Astro first announced their partnership with the Malaysian Super league side before the beginning of the 2021 season.
The docuseries takes sports fans through a never-before-seen perspective of KL City FC, with cameras inside their training facilities, on the pitch and in the dressing room during matchday.
Fans can also expect close-up access of its players, coaches and working staff.
All Astro customers can watch the first episode of “Sampai Mati Kuala Lumpur” on February 1 with the second episode available the next day.
The remaining episodes will be shown every Tuesday and Wednesday over the course of three weeks at the same time on Astro Arena (Ch 801) and Astro Prima (Ch 105). – The Vibes, January 27, 2022
