SEREMBAN – The Negeri Sembilan Sepak Takraw Association (Pestans) say they remain in allegiance with the Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) to ensure that the development and glory of national sepak takraw can be restored.
Pestans president Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah said that despite PSM facing a crisis with the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (Astaf) and the recent establishment of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Confederation (MSC), the PSM are still recognised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as their affiliates.
“We are already in the PSM (fold) and I do not blame MSC, which is a newly-established body. We, in PSM, should fight for PSM and the issue of this association so as to be accepted back as an Astaf (Asian Sepaktakraw Federation) affiliate.
“I hope PSM can be given an opportunity with the efforts being made by the new leadership,” he told reporters after the ceremony for Sepak Takraw League (STL) bonus handover and player introduction for 2021/2022 Champion Cup, which was also attended by Undang Luak (territorial chief) of Jelebu Datuk Mendika Menteri Akhirulzaman Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad here today.
On March 11, former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Mazlan Ahmad reportedly advised all coalition members previously under PSM to join the MSC as the newly established parent body had been accepted as an Astaf affiliate.
Meanwhile, Wan Husni said that Negeri Sembilan Antlers, who finished third in the 2021/2022 Anuar STL Gold League, could use the momentum and advance to the Champion Cup semi-finals on March 20.
He said the Antlers’ target was realistic and could be achieved through high commitment and team spirit, apart from being strengthened by two new players Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam and Mohd Norhafizi Abdul Razak.
Haziq was previously the Selangor Piston tekong and Mohd Norhafizi the “killer” of PDRM Defender.
Wan Husni said his team would also make more thorough preparations to improve on the weaknesses of the previous year.
