KUALA LUMPUR – The iconic KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge (KLTITC) returns after a two-year hiatus.

Partnering with Southeast Asia’s leading running app, JomRun, Malaysia’s leading staircase run will take place on August 14, Sunday at about 6am and is set to attract over 2,000 participants.

The KLTITC has firmly entrenched itself as a signature sporting event in Malaysia with a 19-year track record, attracting runners from across the world.

With an ascent up 2,058 steps to one of the highest peaks in KL at a staggering 288m above ground level, the run offers a unique challenge to runners.

Commenting on the return of KLTITC, founder and managing director of JomRun, Chang Yi Hern said it brings the company immense pride to bring back one of Malaysia’s most recognisable runs.

“The KLTITC has challenged and inspired thousands over the years and we know it will do the same again this year.

“At JomRun we aim to create more opportunities for runners while promoting a healthy lifestyle, and I believe this Towerthon achieves both those objectives through its iconic status and unique challenge,” he said.

He added that as the first and only professional tower-run organiser in Malaysia with races complying with the rules of the Towerrunning World Association, safety of each participant is their priority.

To avoid injuries, runners will be running up the tower one at a time and winners will be based on time taken to complete the whole challenge.

Currently, over 1,000 participants have registered for the run and have been mostly Malaysians with foreigners from Singapore, Brazil, Japan, and Germany.

“Our oldest contestant is 73 years old and the youngest only 11. We hope more people join the run and test their limits,” added Chang.

Also speaking at the event was Deputy National Unity Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who said the event is seen as an opportunity to garner the spirit of togetherness among Malaysians.

“Sporting events are a bridge across different people from all backgrounds. This is a good way to nurture the spirit of togetherness in the nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, KL Tower CEO Ainol Shaharina Sahar said the event cements the iconic tower as a must-visit destination for culture, adventure, and nature.

Winners from the open category will each receive RM1,000 in prize money, while first runners-up will get RM500, and second runners-up will receive RM250.

For the veteran category, winners will receive RM500, RM250, and RM100 respectively.

Malaysians looking to join can enjoy early bird registration at RM80, while international participants can sign-up for RM120.

Registrations for KLTITC are now open and will close on August 12. – The Vibes, July 7, 2022
