KUALA LUMPUR – Who is “Lek Gor”?
This is the question that has been making its rounds within the badminton fraternity, as Malaysian streamer Lek Gor appears to have exclusive access to the world’s top badminton players.
He was seen interviewing world number one Viktor Axelsen during the Malaysia Open in what looked like a hotel room. The interview was in Mandarin as the Danish superstar is fluent in the language.

According to sources in the industry, the Malaysian streamer – known on Facebook as 叻哥羽毛球粉丝俱乐部 LekGor Official Group – was also spotted taking pictures with other badminton players during the tournament at the Axiata Arena.
Lek Gor was allowed to roam free in the vicinity, maybe during the test court session, as there were pictures of him and other players such as national ace Lee Zii Jia, Goh Soon Huat, Soong Joo Ven, Goh Liu Ying, and Teoh Ee Yi while wearing the organiser’s official lanyard.
A week ago, Lek Gor made headlines again after he was blamed for bringing the world’s second-best shuttler Kento Momota of Japan out clubbing, as reported by Hype media.

This caused an outcry among netizens as they expressed concerns that Lek Gor would be a “bad influence”, telling him to stay away from Momota.
Momota later removed the post from his Instagram account.
Lek Gor also had a picture taken of him at the press conference area, which is only restricted to accredited media with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
On top of this, he was wearing the BAM vest.
It is understood that Lek Gor is not attached to any media organisation or with BAM or with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
However, BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh claimed that the association does not know who “Lek Gor” is.
If that is the case, how did he get the official vest from BAM?
Goh told The Star that BAM only knew about Lek Gor following a ticketing controversy at the Malaysia Open.
Lek Gor booked 500 tickets for his followers when tickets were supposed to be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Without the accredited pass, one would not be able to be in the restricted area according to supposedly strict BWF and BAM rules.
Lek Gor was seen at the media’s mixed zone, a restricted area where only accredited local and foreign media organisations are allowed to conduct interviews with the players.
The question is, if BAM and BWF deny knowing Lek Gor, then how does he enjoy unprecedented exclusive access to top players? This is a privilege denied even to the press.
An insider told The Vibes that even local media were not allowed to take photos with the players and when media personnel tried, they were chased away by BWF personnel.
“But Lek Gor on the other hand can interview them and take selfies for his social media platforms,” he said. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
