KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia got its fifth medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after the national women’s table tennis team claimed silver in the women’s team event.

Faced up against neighbours Singapore, the team lost three straight matches, giving Singapore their first gold medal of the games.

The doubles pair of Karen Lyne-Ho Ying failed to give Malaysia a good start as they lost 3-1 to Zhou Jingyi-Zeng Jian.

It was then singles player Alice Chang’s turn, but she was no match for Singapore’s top female player Feng Tian Wei. Chang lost in straight sets.

Playing the third match were Ho Ying and Zeng Jian, who previously played the first doubles match.

Despite her best efforts, the Singaporean proved too much for Ho Ying to overpower.

Singapore entered the finals after beating Australia 3-0 in the semi-finals, while Malaysia took down Wales 3-2 to enter the finals. – The Vibes, August 1, 2022
