KUALA LUMPUR – With pandemic restrictions relaxed since early this year, sporting fans have been eagerly returning to stadiums to catch their favourite football teams in action.
But at what cost?
Recently, Negri Sembilan FC took to their Facebook account to post pictures of trash littered around Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi after a match.
“We request the good service of supporters to maintain cleanliness while watching matches,” the club said.
In the pictures, it was not a small amount of rubbish left behind by supporters; instead, litter can be seen all along the stands.
Half-consumed drinks, plastic bags and food wrappers occupied the stands in place of the supporters who left them behind.
However, some supporters do not think the blame should be on football fans, but on those responsible for the stadium’s cleanliness.
“The stadium authorities should prepare more rubbish bins or even black trash bags, so supporters can use them.
“In matters like this, it is not just the supporters that are to be blamed but stadium management, as they should also take the appropriate steps.
“Prevention is better than cure,” said Facebook user Waris Afah.
Negri Sembilan FC won their match against Penang 3-2 on Tuesday. They are currently third in the Super League. – The Vibes, August 11, 2022
