KUALA LUMPUR – There is no issue with Bukit Jalil National Stadium hosting the FA Cup final despite it being closed for upgrade work, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
The stadium, closed since June 15 for repair work, will be open temporarily for the final, which will see Terengganu FC (TFC) take on Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on September 10.
Faizal added that the Malaysian Football League (MFL) were satisfied with the condition of the stadium and requested to use the stadium for the match during their recent visit to the venue.
“TFC and JDT have also visited the stadium and agreed to play in the stadium. They were also satisfied with the pitch too.”
“MFL requested it and Stadium Corp has agreed as it is of national interest.
“We will try to ensure that upgrading work is not carried out on the pitch. However, we will accelerate the repairs to the toilets and other areas of the stadium before the FA Cup final,” Faizal told the media during the Malaysian Games 30-day Countdown celebration at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Meanwhile, when asked about the Euro Fun Park – Malaysia’s largest funfair – currently taking up space in front of the stadium, Faizal assured that it will not disrupt the football match.
“MFL is aware of the situation at the stadium now and has agreed to continue hosting the final there, citing that the match will happen simultaneously with the fun fair and the concert by popular Indonesian band Dewa 19 at the Axiata Arena.”
The Euro Fun Park is open from now until September 10 and occupies a space at the stadium car park.
However, Faizal added the stadium will be closed again to continue upgrade work after the FA Cup final. – The Vibes, August 17, 2022
