PETALING JAYA – Lavinia Kho’s never-say-die attitude saw her grab the gold medal in the tenpin bowling women’s singles event in the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) at Sunway Mega Lanes here today.
The 18-year-old athlete from Sarawak ensured that she did not go home empty-handed on her debut after racking up a total score of 1,271 pins to see off teammate Nur Hazirah Ramli, who took the silver (1,268) and Selangor’s Nur Nais Falilnesa Isman (1,263) in third.
Lavinia, who displayed an excellent performance, however, did not expect to be able to emerge as champion after faltering in the fourth game.
“It was a great start in my first two games and also quite good for my third game, just that for my fourth game’s (score), I actually thought I didn’t have a chance anymore, but thanks to my coach Angelo Koay, who calmed me down and helped me reset my focus.
“Actually up until the end, I still didn’t know I’d finish number one, it was quite a surprise actually because I only targeted (to get into) the top 10 before coming here... So, I am really pleased,” she said when met by reporters here today. – Bernama, September 18, 2022
