KUALA LUMPUR – The commercial rights holder for MotoGP, Dorna Sports, has renewed its deal with Petronas as the exclusive fuel supplier for the Moto2 and Moto3 grid from 2023 onwards.
During the deal’s announcement ceremony at the Sepang International Circuit today, Dorna Sports chief executive officer Carmelo Ezpeleta said this year’s Malaysian GP is especially important as Petronas is the title sponsor.
“Being together with Petronas, we will have the possibility to increase the importance of sustainability in the sport.
“For both Dorna and Petronas, it is important for both to work on developing a fuel that can be used for everybody.
“I want to say thank you very much to Petronas for trusting us and permitting us to be your partner,” he said.
Meanwhile, Petronas’ group senior general manager of group strategic communications, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, said the company took pleasure in being the title sponsor of the Malaysian GP.
“The renewal of this deal has proven to be very valuable to Petronas, as it not only benefits from the extensive branding worldwide, but we will also be able to take the learnings from the track and implement it in our products.
“Moving forward, the partnership will evolve and see Petronas work closer together with Dorna to push the championships to be more sustainable.
“Petronas views Dorna’s call to reduce carbon emissions in MotoGP as key to unlocking new opportunities,” she said.
Anita also said the deal’s renewal and Petronas’s title sponsorship will contribute to the growth of the motorsports industry in Malaysia.
“This is the same reason Petronas has continued to support grassroots programmes such as the Malaysia Cub Prix Championship over the past two decades, and revived the wildcard programme for this weekend,” she added.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Petronas will be the title sponsor for the Malaysian GP, which will officially be named the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia. – The Vibes, October 22, 2022
