KUALA LUMPUR – A national female cyclist has lodged a police report against her coach over alleged sexual harassment during a training session recently.

Malaysian National Cycling Federation vice-president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill confirmed this with The Vibes, saying the report was made yesterday.

However, Amarjit declined to share further information about the matter as it is under police investigation.

In the meantime, he said the national cycling governing body has suspended the coach pending investigation by the disciplinary board, headed by himself.

“MNCF takes this matter seriously, as it concerns the safety of national cycling athletes.

“As a precautionary measure, while this case is under investigation, MNCF has suspended the coach until further notice.

“The coach is also not allowed to have any kind of communication with the athlete in question.

“We will not compromise on the safety and welfare of our national cyclists, and takes a zero tolerance approach towards any form of sexual harassment and other behaviour prohibited under the Safe Sports Code or any current legislation,” he said.

Amarjit added that if the allegations are found to be substantiated, actions that can be taken include licence suspension and service contract termination or cancelling the appointment to the national team, if any.

He said MNCF will give full cooperation to all the agencies that will be involved in the investigation and will ensure that the provisions of the Safe Sports Code will always be obeyed by all. – The Vibes, March 31, 2023
