KUALA LUMPUR – Super League giants Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) signed 13-year-old Muhammad Aqil Mohd Shamsul Aswadi from Terengganu into their academy. 

“The teenager will join the JDT Academy, which is the only full-time professional football club academy that offers football training, education, and accommodation,” the club announced on their social media page. 

Aqil’s skills was on display recently on social media when a video of him went viral among football fans where the youngster controlled the ball with finesse, showing calmness and composure throughout. 

According to Football Terengganu, Aqil comes from a footballing family. His father, Shamsul “Matcang” is a Terengganu futsal legend while his older brother Arsyad Shamsul plays for Terengganu IV. 

Schooling at SMK Ibrahim Fikri in Kuala Terengganu, Aqil was part of the National Football Development Programme but will now pack up and pursue his footballing career with The Southern Tigers. – The Vibes, May 18, 2023
