KUALA NERUS – Terengganu FC (TFC) head coach Tomislav Steinbruckner was a happy man last night at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (SSMZA) stadium here after watching his players eke out a narrow 1-0 win over Penang FC in a Super League match.

The Croatian said the three points collected could not have come at a better time, which saw the Turtles climbing up a spot to seventh in the league table.

While Steinbruckner felt TFC deserved the win, he hoped his charges will play with more consistency from now on.

“What is more important is we that managed to collect three points against Penang FC. It is a good situation after the last two matches when we lost (to Sri Pahang FC) and drew against Sabah FC,” he told reporters after the match.

Steinbruckner reserved special praise for substitutes Nik Sharif Haseefy Mohd Lazim and Engku Nur Shakir Engku Yaacob whom he said changed the pace of Terengganu’s game after coming on in the second half. Engku Nur Shakir went on to score the winning goal.

For Penang FC assistant coach Manzoor Azwira Abg Wahid, the defeat was a frustrating one which saw his players fight tooth and nail but returned home empty-handed.

“The boys defended well as Terengganu had many chances tonight, but we want to put this defeat behind us now and focus on the FA Cup tie against Johor Darul Ta’zim on Sunday,” he said. – Bernama, May 25, 2023
