THE true spirit of Islam in governance lies in improving people’s welfare, not in empty slogans, Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said during his address at the party’s National Convention today.

Mohamad highlighted that the MADANI government’s policies, focusing on poverty eradication, food security, and social welfare, embody practical Islamic principles in public administration.

He contrasted this approach with other parties, which he claimed often employ religious branding without addressing the basic needs of citizens in the states they govern.

“What’s the point of boasting about religious slogans if people are still trapped in poverty, surrounded by unclean environments, and deprived of job opportunities?” he asked.

As Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad emphasised that the federal government remains committed to eliminating hardcore poverty and leaving no citizen behind.

He noted that continuous efforts have reduced the national hardcore poverty rate from 0.2 per cent to 0.09 per cent, with full eradication targeted within the current term.

“Insya-Allah, by the end of this term, no Malaysian will be left hungry or struggling in darkness,” he said.

Mohamad also paid tribute to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub for initiating the Rahmah programmes — including Payung Rahmah, Menu Rahmah, and Kedai Rahmah — which continue to provide affordable goods and assistance to low-income households.

“The legacy of Allahyarham Salahuddin lives on because his work was rooted in compassion for the people,” he said.

He further noted that initiatives such as Bantuan Sara Hidup (SARA), Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), and the e-Kasih database reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection and ensure inclusive development under the MADANI framework. - November 8, 2025
