KOTA KINABALU – Sabah authorities held 65 road blocks on the first day of a stricter movement control order in the state.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said of 30,127 vehicles inspected, 84 were ordered to turn back.
As of today, individuals who want to cross districts must show letters from their employers or the police.
However, the state has allowed individuals in rural areas to travel beyond 10km to buy essential items, subject to police discretion.
“No arrests were made but 41 compounds were issued for violating the standard operating procedures. The police have also carried out 65 announcements through patrol cars.”
Masidi said in a statement that the population compliance rate today is at 92.95%.
He added that the police will take stern action against those who violate the SOPs by imposing a compound of RM1,000 under Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988).
“As such the public is advised to continue to comply with the SOPs and instructions set by the authorities to curb the spread of the pandemic.”
